Many institutions are currently re-organising and empowering risk management. Enterprise-wide risk management has been a phrase talked about for at least twenty years but banks have started to take the basic concepts much more seriously – why? As the result of the Western banking crisis, there are many changes proposed to the Accord, commonly known as Basel III. What will be the impact of these changes on the capital requirements and, more broadly, on the future business strategy of the bank? How does risk management evolve beyond the Accord? This course will answer those questions by providing an examination of risk management for professional bankers. It considers the Basel Accord, ERM, the creation of a risk framework and how risks management should be organised. Risk is assessed using both modern and traditional techniques and all major risk categories are examined in detail. The course aims at existing risk managers and supporting staff who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in risk management.
